Commemoration of the execution of ten Baha’i women in Iran

On August 22nd, the International Day Commemorating Victims of Acts of Violence based on Religion or Belief, the Las Cruces Baha’i Community commemorated the ten Baha’i Women executed in Shiraz, Iran because they would not recant their faith.

June 18th was the fortieth anniversary of this event that happened in 1983 under the cloak of night. The ten women ranged in age from 17 to 57 years old and have been imprisoned for some months, enduring deprivation, isolation, and torture before their deaths. They were all given the opportunity to reject their faith and live. Each chose death rather than recant their belief in Baha’u’llah.

We invite you to view the video of this event, below.

The Baha’i International Community is dedicating this year to commemorating these women and joining in solidarity with the women of Iran who are still struggling for equality, justice, and freedom from repression. You can view their #OurStoryIsOne campaign on their website and through Instagram.

The Las Cruces Baha’i Community would like to extend our warmest appreciation to our friends from the Brazilian Baha’i community, Mr. Gabriel Marques who created the video, and Ms. Heather Marques for her participation in the event.
